JOB SUMMARY
To perform HVAC service (repair, replacement, maintenance, etc.) to ensure a healthy learning environment for students and staff.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Inspects and services central HVAC systems to determine operating efficiency of equipment. Adjusts, repairs, or overhauls such parts as reciprocating compressors, centrifugal pumps, water pumps, coils, motors, louvers, dampers, filters, pneumatic electric and electronic controls, blowers, solenoids and thermostats, humidistats, and registers.
Installs, adjusts, and places central heating, boilers and burners, ventilating and air-conditioning equipment into operation by checking appropriate gauges and instruments to maintain proper operating conditions within the operating specifications.
Assists less skilled tradesmen engaged in the servicing, adjustment, replacement, repair and maintenance of heating, ventilating, air conditioning units and systems as well as proper practices and procedures of the trade.
Advises management of issues that will require a contractor and problems with equipment under warranty or maintenance service contract.
Reads blueprints, schematic drawings or sketches to determine location, size, capacity, and type of components or units.
Performs other related duties as assigned within the same classification or lower.

Education
High School Diploma or Equivalency Certificate required; and
Technical or Vocational School Beyond High School in related trade preferred.
Experience
Three (3) years progressively responsible heating, ventilating, and air-conditioning work experience required;
Or an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities deemed sufficient to prepare the applicant to successfully perform the duties of the position.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics
Knowledge of roof top units, heat pumps, and electrical control systems.
Basic knowledge of refrigeration, HVAC, steam and condensate systems, pressure and temperature checks, and electric including troubleshooting and servicing.
Working knowledge of plumbing and electrical trades as it pertains to HVAC systems.
General knowledge of OSHA regulations and safe practices.
Working knowledge of boiler service and safe practices.
Ability to read and interpret drawings and specifications, and schematics to determine location, size, capacity and type of new equipment specified.
Ability to diagnose causes of equipment breakdowns, test parts with appropriate instruments, disassembles and assembles parts, and repair equipment and associated components.
Ability to work independently and coordinate work with others on a job site.
Demonstrated ability to effectively work and communicate with diverse populations.
Strong customer service orientation.
Ability to meet deadlines.
Ability to employee business technology tools (e.g. E-mail, AACPS Intranet, electronic benefits enrollment tool, Microsoft Office Suite, etc.).
Must provide own basic hand tools and some test equipment.
Satisfactory score on any tests required.
Licenses and Certifications
Employee must retain active licenses, certifications, and enrollment as a condition of employment.
Upon hire, HVACR (Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration) Apprentice License issued by Maryland Board of Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Contractors required; and
Upon hire, Universal Chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) Certification issued by US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) required.
Upon hire, Driver's License (DL) Class C Non-Commercial issued by Maryland or State of Legal Residence (MVA/DMV) required; and
Proof of a good driving record required.
Daily access to reliable transportation.

Driving is required to conduct bona fide Board business that is within the scope of employment in this position.

Qualification Requirements for Employment in Higher Grade as a New Hire or Transfer requires:
Two (2) additional years of continuous successful experience required.
HVACR (Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration) Journeyman or Journeyman Restricted License in Heating (Forced Air and Hydronic) and Air Conditioning issued by Maryland Board of Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Contractors required.
Eligibility for Consideration for Advancement from Lower Grade to Higher Grade requires:
Two (2) years continuous successful experience in the position at the Lower Grade level.
Mastery of all responsibilities and duties of the position.
Achievement of Professional Certification, License or evidence of course completion in pursuit of such certification or license, if applicable.
Evidence of completion of additional training that may be recommended by supervisor and/or participation in approved professional development programs or courses, approved in advance by the supervisor. Successful completion of a minimum of one professional development within the last two years is required. Successful completion of job specific professional developments identified on the job description, performance evaluations and/or the supervisor’s documented recommendation are required.
Achievement of identified goals as they relate to the needs of the district and as established by the supervisor.
Consistent maintenance of an effective and orderly work environment.
