Performs complex tasks related to testing, troubleshooting, operating, maintaining, repairing, and installing critical commercial building fire detection, fire suppression and other life safety systems and system components. May lead Electronic Equipment Tech I's in the performance of their duties. Develops/maintains a current knowledge of local, state and national codes as well as equipment/technologies associated with commercial building life safety systems. Works under the general direction and supervision of the Chief Building Engineer and/or Facilities Manager.
Note: Incumbent is considered emergency essential. Flexible working schedule is required as well as overtime, call-back and on-call. Essential personnel will be required to report to work during times designated countywide as approved for unscheduled leave regardless of the emergency (i.e., weather, transportation, other disaster).
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to the following: High school graduation or a GED issued by a state department of education; plus, completion of an apprentice-level vocational training program in electronics; and two years of experience in the maintenance and repair of the electronic and electromechanical equipment specific to the position.
CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
Valid driver's license.
NFPA Certified Fire Alarm ITM Specialist (CFAITMS)
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check, driving record check, and pre-employment medical evaluation to the satisfaction of the employer.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Any certification in Fire Alarm and/or Fire Suppression Systems.
NFPA Certified Sprinkler ITM Specialist (CISTMS)
5+ years of experience in the maintenance and repair of Fire Alarm Systems.
Working experience with Fire Suppression Systems
Knowledge of preventative maintenance schedules for Fire Suppression Systems
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
Ability to maintain records and prepare reports.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to lift up to 60 lbs. For short periods of time. Carry up to 40lbs. Moving about on hands and knees or hands and feet to enter tight spaces. Must be able to climb and descend ladders up to 20 feet and work in physically fatiguing positions for long periods of time. Ability to ascend and descend stairs, ramps, and the like for single and multistory (up to 12 stories) buildings in the Department s portfolio. Pushing/pulling involving use of hands/arms, feet/legs, and/or feet only done with one side of the body or both sides. Seizing, holding, grasping, turning, or otherwise working with hand(s). Reach with hands and arms. Stand; walk; climb, balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Must be able to wear and use respirator and OSHA required PPE. Work in various weather conditions (heat, rain, snow, high humidity, etc.). Frequently work near moving parts. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
