Job Description:

Operate heavy equipment to clear brush and stumps prior to logging activities and to build roads at logging and surface mining sites

Operate heavy equipment with pile driver head to drive piling into earth to provide support for buildings, bridges or other structures

Run heavy dredging equipment to deepen waterways or reclaim earth fill

Operate heavy paving and surfacing equipment to lay, spread or compact concrete, asphalt and other surface materials during highway and road construction

Run power shovels to excavate rock, ore or other materials from open-pit mines, strip mines, quarries or construction pits

Run heavy equipment to move, load and unload cargo

Operate excavators to excavate, move, lift, strip, stockpile and place earth, rock, gravel or other materials.

Operate computer controlled equipment

Perform minor repairs to equipment

Operate hydraulic pumping systems

Requirements:

Education: Some secondary school is required.

Experience: Completion of a one- to two-year apprenticeship program or industry courses in heavy equipment operating combined with on-the-job training are required.

- A valid driver’s license (Class G) is required.

Type of Heavy Equipment Operated: Backhoe excavator, loader, Bulldozer, large or small, Cable shovel, large or small, Grader, Loader, Compactor, Front end loader, Dump truck, Gravel or dump truck, Industrial lift trucks and fork-lifts.

Work conditions and physical capabilities: Fast-paced environment, Manual dexterity, Attention to detail, Combination of sitting, standing, walking, Bending, crouching, kneeling, Physically demanding, Sitting, Standing for extended periods, Handling heavy loads, Hand-eye coordination, Repetitive tasks, Overtime required.

Salary: $27.50 per hour, 40 – 60 hours per week.

Benefits: Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and uniforms are provided by the employer at no cost. Transportation to and from mining or construction sites provided by employer, and motel accommodation is provided by the employer, at no cost, when the workers have to work in different locations.

Important information: Flexibility on schedule is required. The regular schedule includes 8 – 10 hours per day, 5 – 6 days per week on a rotational basis. Overtime and work on weekends is required.
