Heavy Equipment Operator

Oakly Landscaping is seeking a skilled Heavy Equipment Operator to join our team. In this role, you will operate various heavy machinery to perform site preparation, grading, earth-moving, and material handling tasks for residential and commercial landscaping and hardscaping projects.

JOB DESCRIPTION

• Operate heavy equipment such as backhoes, bulldozers, loaders, graders, and heavy paving/surfacing equipment to excavate, move, load, grade, lay, spread, or compact earth, rock, gravel, concrete, asphalt, and other materials during construction and related activities.
• Prepare sites by clearing brush, stumps, trees, and debris to level ground and ensure proper surfaces for installing patios, walkways, lawns, retaining walls, and other landscaping or hardscaping features.
• Perform grading and excavation to ensure proper drainage, soil compaction, slope, and foundation for hardscaping and landscaping projects.
• Operate pile-driving cranes or dredging equipment as needed for site preparation or earth reclamation.
• Transport and place materials (rock, mulch, soil, stone, pavers, etc.) using heavy equipment.
• Follow site plans, blueprints, or instructions (e.g., grade stakes, slope elevations, layout markers) to achieve design specifications.
• Work with other crew members to coordinate equipment movement, material deliveries, and site cleanup.
• Conduct pre-operational checks on equipment, clean and lubricate machinery, refill equipment tanks, and perform minor repairs as necessary.
• Report any mechanical issues or needed repairs to supervisors.
• Adhere to all safety protocols, use of PPE, and company policies, including maintaining clean and safe equipment.
• Operate two-way radios and other communication equipment.
• Calculate weight, distance, volume, and length measurements.
• Familiarity with John Deere controls is an asset.
