Under limited supervision, studies, diagnoses and resolves unusual problems encountered in the maintenance and repair of vehicles and equipment. Instructs and mentors technicians in the inspection, maintenance and repair of vehicles and equipment; serves as the senior technician at the assigned facility and performs related work as required.
Note: This job announcement may be used to fill future full-time Vehicle and Equipment Technician III positions at other Department of Vehicle Services (DVS) locations - Alban, Jermantown, Newington or West Ox depending on the needs of the hiring department.
Schedule: Day Shifts: 5:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.; 10:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. OR 11:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Evening Shifts: 2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.
* A $2,500 signing bonus is available to new county employees currently in possession of a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and hired in the full-time Vehicle and Equipment Technician III position after completing six months of employment with satisfactory performance.

Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities

Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to completion of the tenth grade plus seven years of experience in problem diagnosis, repair and maintenance of a wide variety of light, medium, heavy and/or specialized automotive equipment. Related automotive technical education or trade training above the high school may be substituted for experience on a year-for-year basis.
Possession of a set of tools commonly used in the automotive industry, such as wrenches, pliers, and sockets and ratchets. Personal tools are required upon appointment.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
All newly hired employees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 (two weeks after the last required dose) as a condition of employment or obtain approval of a medical or religious exemption prior to their start date. Proof of an exemption or vaccination status will be required during the pre-employment onboarding process. New employees who obtain an exemption from the vaccine mandate for medical or sincerely held religious beliefs may be subject to a weekly testing requirement. Vaccinated employees and employees with a medical or religious exemption will complete the attestation online on their first day of employment or shortly thereafter.
The appointee to the position must satisfactorily complete a criminal background check, driving record check, Commercial Driver License (CDL) screening, and pre-employment medical evaluation.
This position is classified as essential personnel. The appointee is required to report to work during times of inclement weather or other emergencies.
Team leadership skills and experience working with vendors.
Must be able to lift 50 pounds on an average of once daily; stoop, bend, twist and reach many times daily; use ladders extensively; use creeper (or get on hands and knees) several times daily. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
Panel interview and may include a practical exercise.
