Job Description:

Inspect, measure and mark surfaces to be covered

Measure, cut and fasten underlay and underpadding

Measure, cut and install carpeting on floors

Measure, cut and install resilient floor coverings

Inspect and repair damaged floor coverings

Remove existing floor coverings and contaminants

Employ knee kickers and other equipment to stretch carpeting

Perform double-bond carpet installations

Install resilient stair components (special effects for the visually impaired)

Read blueprints, drawings and specifications to determine work requirements

Conduct moisture, ph, temperature and other tests prior to flooring installations

Prepare floors for installations

Perform direct glue-down carpet installations

Install outdoor carpets

Install materials on counter tops and raised platforms

Drive from one job site to another and transport tools and equipment

Requirements:

Education: Completion of secondary school is required.

Experience: Completion of a two-to three-year apprenticeship program or over four years of work experience in the trade and some courses in floor covering installation is required.

Valid driver’s license is required.

Salary: The starting wage is $21.11 per hour plus holiday pay, and it will increase based on the number of hours worked, in accordance with the collective agreement. 37.5 to 40 hours per week.

Important information: Flexibility in the schedule is required. Work schedule consists of 5 days per week, 8 hours per day. Shifts will be from Monday to Friday from 7:00AM to 3:00PM. Sometimes shifts can start earlier or end later depending on the job site. A minimum of 30 hours per week are guaranteed during winter. Overtime and weekend work may be required depending on the business’ needs.
