Description
The Carpenter plays a key role in maintaining and improving City of Austin facilities to keep them safe, functional, and inviting. In this hands-on position, you’ll take pride in building, repairing, and enhancing facility structures using your carpentry skills. Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
- Performs skilled Carpentry work in City-owned facilities.
- Operates and maintains various power and hand tools.
- Installs, repairs, rebuilds, fabricates, replaces City facility structures and amenities.
- Reads blueprints, specifications and building codes.
- Records data.
- Measures using appropriate instruments.
- Measures/mixes ingredients.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent, plus two years of experience as a journeyman carpenter
- Experience may substitute for education up to four (4) years.
- Texas Class C Operator’s License or ability to obtain one within 90 calendar days of hire.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in commercial or municipal carpentry, including framing, drywall, and finish work.
- Knowledge of building codes, ADA requirements, and OSHA safety standards.
- Proficiency in reading blueprints and technical drawings.
- Skilled in using carpentry tools and equipment with experience in concrete formwork and woodworking.
- Strong problem-solving skills with experience in fast-paced, service-oriented environments.
