Job Description:

• Read sketches and blueprints to calculate materials required
• Cut and trim bricks and concrete blocks to specification using hand and power tools
• Prepare and lay bricks, concrete blocks, stone, structural tiles and similar materials to construct or repair walls, foundations and other structures in residential, industrial and commercial construction
• Lay bricks or other masonry units to build residential or commercial chimneys and fireplaces
• Lay or install firebricks to line industrial chimneys and smokestacks
• Line or reline furnaces, kilns, boilers and similar installations using refractory or acid-resistant bricks, refractory concretes, plastic refractories and other materials
• Lay bricks, stone or similar materials to provide veneer facing to walls or other surfaces
• Construct and install prefabricated masonry units
• Lay bricks or other masonry units to build patios, garden walls and other decorative installations
• Estimate materials, labour, tools and equipment
• Work at heights, on scaffolding or swing stages
• May restore, clean or paint existing masonry structures.
• Complete interior and exterior repairs to masonry brick, concrete block and decorative stone
• Pointing and tuck-pointing repairs to mortar
• Parging

Requirements:

• Education: Completion of secondary school is usually required.
• Experience: A minimum of 3 years of experience is required. If a candidate does not have at least three years of experience, then a post-secondary certificate or a three- to four-year apprenticeship program is required.
• Valid driver’s license is an asset
• Working Conditions and Physical Capabilities: Handling heavy loads, Tight deadlines, Bending, crouching, kneeling, Manual dexterity, Physically demanding, Standing for extended periods, Fast-paced environment, Attention to detail, Repetitive tasks, combination of sitting, standing and walking,
• Personal suitability: Judgement, Team player, Organized, Accurate, Initiative, Excellent oral communication, Effective interpersonal skills.
• Major Work Area: Construction, Repair, Renovation

Salary: $32- $34 hourly, 40-44 hours per week.

Benefits: Workers Compensation Board Insurance provided. Transportation costs covered if worker needs to relocate

Important Information: Flexibility on schedule is required. The work schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:30 am – 4.30 pm. A minimum of 30 hours of work is guaranteed during winter time. Occasional overtime and work on Saturdays may be required to make up lost time during the week if weather is not cooperating.
