JOB SUMMARY
Determines the cost of construction projects, plans, and schedules the work. Works closely with contractors and in house staff to evaluate projected time frame needed to complete a project and additional factors like labor needs, materials, budgets, and potential setbacks. By gathering first-hand information from a site, an Estimator understands the project and is a subject matter expert in appropriate trade for assigned department.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Develops detailed job plans, bills of materials, work hour/cost estimates and coordinates projects with other maintenance trades and crafts.
Oversees a multi-craft request and submits a complete set of project documentation to the Program Manager and Sr. Specialist for final approval.
Prepares third party project estimates and schedules by evaluating specifications, reviewing blueprints, and providing thorough field information resulting in takeoffs, inclusive of estimated project costs.
Participates in meetings to ensure projects are being completed on time and within budget and to resolve potential issues with the respective Program Manager.
Coordinates meetings with the other Maintenance Planner Estimators to discuss multi craft projects and to ensure that all aspects of the project are properly covered.
Produces reports related to project costs and inspects work in progress and resolves problems, as necessary.
Expedites orders for materials and supplies for Manager and Sr. Specialist approval.
Schedules and monitors contracted services work through the department as required.
Assists with overall management of the component file.
Performs other related duties as assigned within the same classification or lower.

Education
High School Diploma or Equivalency Certificate required; and
Technical or Vocational School Beyond High School within a maintenance or construction trade preferred.
Experience
Five (5) years progressive work experience required in the appropriate trade required.
Or an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities deemed sufficient to prepare the applicant to successfully perform the duties of the position.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics
Advanced knowledge of the appropriate trade for assigned department.
Proficiency in mathematics.
Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
Ability to read, interpret, and apply work orders, diagrams, sketches, blueprints, drawings and specifications, and manufacturers manuals.
Ability to read and interpret and to assist in preparing project documents and specifications, as necessary.
Knowledge of procedures and regulations pertaining to hazardous materials and "The Right to Know Law."
Demonstrated ability to effectively work and communicate with diverse populations.
Ability to employ business technology tools (e.g. E-mail, AACPS Intranet, electronic benefits enrollment tool, Microsoft Office Suite, etc.).
Must provide own basic hand tools.
Satisfactory score on any tests required.
Licenses and Certifications
Employee must retain active licenses, certifications, and enrollment as a condition of employment.
Upon hire, HVACR (Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration) Journeyman License issued by Maryland Board of Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Contractors (HVACR) required; and
Upon hire, Universal Chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) Certification issued by US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) required; or
Upon hire, Electrician Apprentice License issued by Maryland Board of Master Electricians required; or
Upon hire, Plumbing Journey Plumber/Gas Fitter License issued by Maryland Board of Plumbing required; and
Upon hire, Driver's License (DL) Class C Non-Commercial issued by Maryland or State of Legal Residence (MVA/DMV) required;
Proof of a good driving record required.
Daily access to reliable transportation.
