Irrigation Specialist

The successful candidate will recommend irrigation devices and determine feasibility of irrigation plans. Draw and modify blueprints for irrigation considerations.  Install and modify irrigation equipment/systems according to blueprints and take into account environmental and other considerations. Conduct renovation surveys in order to determine priority ranking for systems that need renovated/replaced instead of repaired.  Repair and maintain irrigation systems.  Locate irrigation lines for construction and excavation.  Irrigate with portable sprinklers and large water tanks.  Backfill and sink irrigation trenches.  Assemble and disassemble portable field irrigation equipment at the sod field.  Install drainage tile.  Work with organizations on special events concerning tent setups and irrigation locates and run times.  Perform other duties associated with ground maintenance, equipment maintenance and repair, general labor, inventory and supplies, and snow removal.  On 24-hour call-back for emergencies.

Required:

• High school diploma/GED
  
• Three years relevant work experience, operation, and repair of electronically controlled irrigation systems
  
• Knowledge of irrigation systems
  
• Mechanical aptitude
  
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics
  
• Knowledge of electrical and plumbing crafts
  
• Ability to read, write and speak English and to communicate effectively
  
• Ability to read, write and perform basic mathematics
  
• Basic computer skills
  
• Organizational abilities and problem solving skills
  
• Ability to obtain Indiana Pesticide Applicators License (3A & 3B) within 6 months of hire
  
• Ability to lift and carry 25 to 50 lbs. frequently, and up to 60 lbs. occasionally
  
• Works outdoors, at times in temperatures below 32 degrees and above 90 degrees
  
• A valid US or Canadian driver’s license.
  

Preferred:

• Familiarity with computerized central control systems
  
• Experience in turf maintenance and operation of turf equipment
  
• Knowledge of campus buildings and locations
