Development Services Inspector (HVAC Mechanical Inspector)

Under general supervision, is responsible for performing inspectional work and enforcing compliance for new construction, remodeling, alterations, repairs, moving, or demolition of structures to ensure compliance with the City adopted building codes, zoning ordinances, and other related City ordinances. Working conditions are primarily in a field environment. Exercises no supervision.

Development Services, 1901 S Alamo, San Antonio, Texas 78207

WORK HOURS:
7:45 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Monday - Friday

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Conducts inspections to ensure proposed construction conforms to the International Mechanical Code, International Fuel Gas Code, International Energy Conservation Code and the Unified Development Code.
• Discuss repairs, alterations, and new construction with owners and contractors; explains and interprets building codes and regulations.
• Issues verbal or written orders for correction of defects in materials, workmanship, and other violations of codes and ordinances.
• Documents inspection results and investigations in laptop or desktop computer using land development software.
• Responds to questions by phone pertaining to building related codes, zoning, and the Unified Development Code.
• Inspectional work requires communication by a variety of methods and may include sitting, standing, reaching, walking, twisting, crawling, kneeling, climbing ladders of any height and may lift/carry up to 50 pounds at work sites.
• Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.

• High school diploma or GED equivalent (recognized by the Texas Education Agency or a regional accrediting agency).
• Four (4) years of experience in mechanical construction and repair.
• Must obtain International Code Council (ICC) certification as a Mechanical Inspector within one (1) year of employment.
• Mechanical Inspector (commercial) must possess technician registration or master HVAC mechanical license issued by either the City of San Antonio or State of Texas.
• Valid Class "C" Texas Driver's License OR valid driver's license from another state with the ability to obtain a valid Class "C" Texas Driver's License within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident. Use of your own personal vehicle may at time be required and proof of Liability Insurance will be required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Bilingual (English/Spanish).
