JOB SUMMARY
Performs semi-skilled and skilled general maintenance tasks within school facilities. Performs a variety of repairs and installations related to building structure, roofing, and interior/exterior components/finishes.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Installs, repairs and replaces all types of door and window hardware, floor finishes, metal framed drywall partitions, finishing drywall, window sashes/door jambs, cabinets, stair treads, and handrails, suspended ceiling tile and T&G ceiling tile.
Repairs and replaces, all floor finishes Vinyl Composite Tile (VCT), carpet, quarry tile, etc. and masonry block, brick, and concrete.
Evaluates, installs, and repairs various types of roofing materials, flashing, exterior trim, soffit, rain gutters, down spouts and cleans roof drains.
Replaces single and thermal panes in various types of windows, doors, and showcases.
Cuts, fits, and joins lumber and plastic laminate in the construction and repair of cabinetry, bookcases, and countertops.
Performs sizing, ordering, mortising, boring, fitting, and hanging wood/metal doors and blanks.
Installs and repairs specialty items that include but are not limited to, chalkboards, bulletin boards, smart boards, bleachers, lockers, toilet partitions, overhead doors, folding partitioning, etc.
Paints the interior and exterior surfaces of buildings.
Performs other related duties as assigned within the same classification or lower.

Education
High School Diploma or Equivalency Certificate required.
Experience
Three (3) years general maintenance/construction or related experience required.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics
Knowledge of basic construction methods and procedures.
Knowledge of and experience in basic carpentry to include layout, framing, and sheathing.
Ability to use various shop and hand power tools including saws, drills, woodworking and welding machines.
Ability to work independently and accomplish goals within various trades while meeting deadlines.
Ability to learn the content of and skill in reading, interpreting and applying work orders, diagrams, sketches, blueprints, drawings and specifications, and manufacturers manuals.
Ability to practice and enforce safety regulations applicable to work performed.
Knowledge of procedures and regulations pertaining to hazardous materials.
Demonstrated ability to effectively work and communicate with diverse populations.
Ability to employ business technology tools (e.g. E-mail, AACPS Intranet, electronic benefits enrollment tool, Microsoft Office Suite, etc.).
Provides basic hand tools.
Licenses and Certifications
Employee must retain active licenses, certifications, and enrollment as a condition of employment.
Upon hire, Driver's License (DL) Class C Non-Commercial issued by Maryland or State of Legal Residence (MVA/DMV) required.
Proof of a good driving record required.
Driving Requirements
Driving is required to conduct bona fide Board business that is within the scope of employment in this position.

CAREER LADDER REQUIREMENTS
Qualification Requirements for Employment in Higher Grade as a New Hire or Transfer requires:
Two (2) additional years continuous successful experience required.
Completion of practical maintenance trades/vocational training/education.
Knowledge of and ability to perform multiple trades’ skill at an advance level.
Eligibility for Consideration for Advancement from Lower Grade to Higher Grade requires:
Two (2) years continuous successful experience in the position at the Lower Grade level.
Mastery of all responsibilities and duties of the position.
Achievement of Professional Certification, License or evidence of course completion in pursuit of such certification or license, if applicable.
Evidence of completion of additional training that may be recommended by supervisor and/or participation in approved professional development programs or courses, approved in advance by the supervisor. Successful completion of a minimum of one professional development within the last two years is required. Successful completion of job specific professional developments identified on the job description, performance evaluations and/or the supervisor’s documented recommendation are required.
Achievement of identified goals as they relate to the needs of the district and as established by the supervior.
Consistent maintenance of an effective and orderly work environment.
Consistent compliance with general office procedures such as standards contained in the AACPS Employee Handbook; demonstration of discretion and excellent customer service; regular and punctual attendance; and building dress code, including wearing AACPS ID badge.
