Job Description:

Maintain records of food costs, consumption, and inventory for restaurant and retail operations

Demonstrate new cooking techniques and new equipment for creating vegan pastries to cooking staff

Supervise activities of 2 workers

Assisting in creating new vegan recipes suitable for restaurant service and retail sales

Assisting in the creation and implementation of a vegan pastries program for restaurant sales and for retail sales

Instruct other cooks in preparation, cooking, garnishing and presentation of food

Prepare and cook complete meals and specialty foods for restaurant service

Prepare and cook meals or specialty foods for retail sales

Prepare and cook food on a regular basis, or for special guests or functions

Estimate food requirements and food and labour costs

Plan menus and ensure food meets quality standards

Adapt recipes as needed for retail distribution

Adhere to food safety regulations to maintain product integrity for retail distribution

Prepare dishes for customers with food allergies or intolerances

Train staff in preparation, cooking and handling of food

Schedule and supervise kitchen helpers

Requirements

Education: Completion of secondary school is required.

Experience: A minimum of 2 years of experience as cook or related field is required.

Ability to supervise at least two workers

Minimum 2 years of experience with cooking vegan pastries is a strong asset

Important Information:

Flexibility in the schedule is required. Hearts Choices is open from Monday to Saturday from 11:30 AM to 8:00 PM but shifts begin earlier to prepare products for retail sales. The employee will work from Monday to Friday in a combination of shifts from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, and shifts from 12:30 PM to 9:00 PM. One unpaid lunch break of 30 minutes and one paid coffee break of 15 minutes are included.
