POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the guidance of the Assistant Director, Facilities Maintenance, the Facilities Maintenance Engineer - HVAC is responsible for maintaining, servicing, repairing, and inspecting all heating, ventilating, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, refrigeration and air-conditioning systems, and the mechanical, logic, pneumatic and electronic controls associated with these systems in the University Student Union buildings.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
• Inspect, maintain and repair heating, air-conditioning, refrigeration, chiller systems and ventilating equipment, including air-handlers, rooftop package units, boilers, pumps, motors, compressors, and condensers. Trouble-shoot equipment including but not limited to controls, signal wiring, and electrical connections. Assist with the purchase, procurement and installation of parts, including operating a motor vehicle in the transport of equipment and supplies to and from the University Student Union facilities, as well as to procure job-related supplies from local vendors;
• Perform preventative maintenance on all HVAC equipment including but not limited to exhaust fans, pumps, motors, belts and filters;
• Maintain all CFC compliance logs, equipment history, utility, and equipment meter readings;
• Monitor and maintain USU Siemens Apogee energy management system;
• Manage all HVAC-related projects and contracts and oversee contracted services related to HVAC equipment and keeps Assistant Director, Facilities Maintenance and Facilities Maintenance Supervisor informed of the status of all HVAC-related equipment;
• Maintain water treatment system equipment, water levels, chemicals, cleaning, pumps and filters;
• Perform plumbing work related to HVAC, including copper galvanized plastic, and black iron piping, valves, gauges, pneumatic lines;
• Perform electrical work related to HVAC, including fuses, circuit breakers, wire pulling, signal and control wiring, etc.;
• Perform a variety of skilled and semi-skilled construction, maintenance and repair work including plumbing and electrical;
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
Education:
Equivalent to graduation from high school.
Experience:
Equivalent to two years of experience at a journeyman level in HVAC.
Special Requirements:
-Universal CFC and A/C and boiler certifications.
Preferred Qualifications:
-A valid Class 3 California Driver’s License.
Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities:
• Knowledge of heating, pneumatic, ventilation and air condition, refrigeration and other mechanical equipment, and the methods, tools, materials, terminology and equipment used in the operation, maintenance and repair of such equipment
• Knowledge of energy management systems, related computer systems, and PM work order programs.
• Knowledge of routine and preventative safety practices
• Knowledge of the various tools used in plumbing, electrical, refrigeration and air conditioning work
• Ability to read, interpret and work from blueprints, schematics, manuals, diagrams and operating procedures at a level sufficient to satisfactorily perform the duties of the job
• Ability to analyze situations accurately and take prompt action during emergencies
• Ability to use initiative and resourcefulness in planning work assignments and implementing long-term program improvements
• Ability to collect, analyze and evaluate data and make written and/or verbal presentations
• Ability to perform minor data entry tasks
• Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, faculty, staff, tenants, vendors, and contractors
• Ability to clearly express ideas verbally and in writing
• Ability to teach basic skills to students
• Ability to determine supply and material requirements and inform supervisor of findings
• Ability to perform strenuous manual labor, including lifting 90 lbs. and carrying 50 lb. loads
• Ability to be available for any emergency repair in the facilities during evening, weekends, and/or holidays
• Ability to assume a high level of personal responsibility to ensure the safety of oneself, others and the facilities

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is general performed in both temperature-controlled and outdoor environments, occasionally in extreme weather conditions. Depending on the time of year, average temperatures may range from 50 degrees in winter to over 100 degrees in summer. Equipment manufacturer training will be required at time of hire and additional training will be required as needed.

PAY, BENEFITS AND WORK SCHEDULE:

The anticipated hiring range will be as follows and is dependent on experience and qualifications:
Hourly: $39.15 - $43.75
Bi-Weekly: $3,132.46 - $3,500.00
Annually: $81,444.00 - $91,000.00
The salary range of the position is as follows:
Hourly: Minimum: $39.15 Maximum: $49.65
Bi-Weekly: Minimum: $3,132.46 Maximum: $3,972.00
Annually: Minimum: $81,444.00 Maximum: $103,272.00
HOURS: Full-Time 40 hours per week; FLSA Non-exempt; may include early mornings, late evenings and weekends.
