Job Duties:

Clean meats to prepare for processing or cutting

Cut, trim and prepare standard cuts of meat

Wrap and package prepared meats

Remove bones from meat

Weigh meats for sale

Cut poultry into parts

Price meat products

Clean and prepare fish and shellfish

Sell meats to customers

Cut fish into steaks and fillets

Supervise other butchers, meat cutters and fishmongers

Grind meats

Make special sausages

Slice cooked meats

Prepare special orders

Prepare special displays of meats, poultry and fish products

Shape, lace and tie roasts, other meats, poultry and seafood

Requirements

Education: Completion of high school is required.

Experience: A minimum of 6 months of experience in the field is required. On-the-job training will be provided.

Equipment and machinery experience: Band saw, Manual cutting utensil, Power grinder, Sausage machine, Slicing machine

Work conditions and Physical capabilities: Work under pressure, Tight deadlines, Fast-paced environment, Standing for extended periods, Attention to detail, Physically demanding, Handling heavy loads, Hand-eye co-ordination

Work Site Environment: Cold/refrigerated

Salary: $18.00 hourly, 37.5 – 44 hours per week

Important Information: The candidate will work 5 days a week from Tuesday to Saturday: The regular work schedule is from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays; and from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursdays and Fridays. Flexibility is required, as some days may start earlier and others may finish later, depending on the business needs. Overtime may be required. Work on weekends (Saturdays) is required.
