Job Description:
Conduct feasibility, design operation and performance research of electrical generation and distribution networks
Supervise technicians, technologists, programmers, analysts and other engineers
Prepare material cost and timing estimates, reports and design specifications
Design electrical and electronic components, systems and equipment
Supervise and inspect the installation and operation of electrical and electronic systems and equipment
Develop maintenance and operating standards for electrical and electronic systems and equipment
Investigate electrical or electronic failures
Set up and operate specialized and standard test equipment to diagnose, test and analyze the performance of electrical and electronic components, assemblies and systems
Design, develop, and validate complex multi-layer PCBs for RF and mixed-signal applications using Altium Designer
Architect and implement hardware solutions using Texas Instruments CC1110, CC1310, STM32, and ATTiny microcontrollers
Design and optimize ISM-band and 802.11 wireless circuits, including antenna matching, filtering, and RF front-end design
Develop power switching and LED driver circuits for a variety of product applications
Source and qualify electronic components, including managing relationships with foreign parts suppliers
Prototype, solder, and rework surface-mount and through-hole assemblies (fine-pitch QFN, BGA, 0201 passives)
Operate and maintain pick-and-place production lines for low-to-medium volume manufacturing runs
Debug and troubleshoot electronic assemblies using oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, and other bench equipment
Write clear and thorough technical documentation, including design specifications, test procedures, assembly manuals, and user guides
Provide hands-on hardware support to firmware development teams, including creating debug fixtures and test interfaces
Conduct design reviews, perform schematic and layout peer reviews, and ensure designs meet EMC/regulatory requirements
Requirements:
Education: A bachelor’s degree in electrical or electronic engineering or in an appropriate related engineering discipline is required
Experience: At least 5 years of experience in electronics hardware design and development are required.
Licensing by a provincial or territorial association of professional engineers is required
Knowledge and experience at hand soldering and rework of surface-mount components, including fine-pitch packages, is required
Experience operating and programming pick-and-place assembly lines is required
Proven ability to debug and diagnose hardware issues at the board and system level is required
Experience designing complex, multi-layer PCBs with controlled impedance, high-speed signals and RF considerations is required
Experience with power switching circuit design (MOSFETs, gate drivers, DC-DC converters is required
Experience with LED driver circuit design is required
Demonstrated experience sourcing parts from international suppliers is required
