Performs a variety of routine skilled welding duties to include welding repairs, fabrications, and modifications on a variety of equipment and structures. Welds, cuts, solders, and brazes a variety of equipment and structures in the shop and at field sites. Operates acetylene and electrical welding equipment, band saws, sanders, hydraulic presses, pipe traders, and various hand tools to prepare work pieces. Heats, bends, and straightens work pieces. Performs bead welding, tack welding, brazing, flame cutting, heat treating, plasma cutting, chipping, or grinding off excess weld slag or spatter. Cleans chips and grinds cracks and joints in work pieces, using solvents, wire brush, chisel, and portable grinders. Sets up and adjusts welding equipment. Drives a vehicle to and from work locations and keeps vehicle supplied with tools and materials. Drives commercial vehicles, as necessary. Operates snow removal equipment. Exercises safety in dealing with equipment and hazardous welding by-products. Participates in safety trainings. Maintains stock inventory of welding supplies and materials. Keeps minor records and performs simple administrative tasks. Performs other related duties as required.
Note: Solid Waste operates a 7 day per week operation with early and late shifts, to include alternate schedules. Overtime, weekend, and holiday work is required. Position is designated as "Essential Emergency Services Personnel".

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of education, experience and training equivalent to completion of the tenth grade, supplemented by (1) completion of an acceptable apprentice-level training program with some successful experience in performing journeyman-level work, or (2) varied and responsible journeyman-level experience in the welding trade; or which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check, a pre-employment physical examination, and driving record check to the satisfaction of the employer.
All newly hired employees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 (two weeks after the last required dose) as a condition of employment or obtain approval of a medical or religious exemption prior to their start date. Proof of an exemption or vaccination status will be required during the pre-employment onboarding process. New employees who obtain an exemption from the vaccine mandate for medical or sincerely held religious beliefs may be subject to a weekly testing requirement. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Welder certificate and two years experience. Takes direction cooperatively, always working for the good of the whole. Has strong attendance habits. Realizes time is of the essence and does what it takes to stay ahead of the schedule' we seek a dedicated individual who will be responsible for the preventative maintenance. Effectively communicate in English both orally, in writing, and follow sketches and blueprints.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to stand, stoop, bend, stretch, walk, climb, sit, kneel, crouch, reach, crawl, lift and handle materials with manual dexterity. Strength and dexterity to perform all required tasks including lifting, bending, standing, stooping, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Climbs up and down ladders and stairs. Climb in and out of equipment. Traverses various types of terrain. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
