Under general supervision, performs a variety of carpentry and other related duties in field operations. Construct barricades, concrete forms for storm drainage, structure retaining walls, stairs, and other general carpentry tasks. Make repairs to roofs, roof drains, gutters, downspouts, walls, floors, steps, and handrails. Performs preventive maintenance on interior and exterior overhead doors, and fire doors. Build structures from engineering specification drawings. Estimate materials for projects. Research resources needed for projects, communicate to contractors regarding projects, works as lead on special/directive work orders, works as lead on assembling, installing, and repairing office furniture, shelves, blinds, outdoor equipment as well as fitting and installing interior and exterior trim. Assist crews in field work. Operates service vehicle and maintains inventory of materials and equipment in vehicle. Performs bi-weekly tool and lumber inventories. Performs related duties as required.
Note: This position is designated as emergency personnel and requires the incumbent to be available for snow, flood, and other designated emergency situations to include overtime and 24 hour on-call as necessary.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to High school diploma or a GED issued by a state department of education, and completion of an acceptable apprentice-level training program; plus three years of progressively responsible experience in the carpentry trade. Four years of experience in the carpentry trade may be substituted for the apprentice-level training program.
CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
Valid driver's license.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check and driving record check to the satisfaction of the employer.
All newly hired employees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 (two weeks after the last required dose) as a condition of employment or obtain approval of a medical or religious exemption prior to their start date. Proof of an exemption or vaccination status will be required during the pre-employment onboarding process. New employees who obtain an exemption from the vaccine mandate for medical or sincerely held religious beliefs may be subject to a weekly testing requirement. Vaccinated employees and employees with a medical or religious exemption will complete the attestation online on their first day of employment or shortly thereafter.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Possession of a valid Class "B" or higher Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Department of Transportation (DOT) medical card. Knowledge of equipment, materials, methods, practices, and tools used in the trade. knowledge of common hazards and necessary safety precautions. Knowledge of standards, practices, and equipment of the carpentry trade. Skill in the use of tools, equipment, and material pertinent in the trade to perform journey level carpentry work. Ability to follow written and oral instructions as well as drawings, specifications, and manufacturer’s manuals. Ability to lead a maintenance crew in performance of carpentry and other projects. The ability to operate rubber-tired equipment including a forklift, skid loader, backhoe, etc.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Hard hat, eye protection, hearing protection, safety footwear, long pants, sleeved shirt and personal fall arrest harness. Candidate must be physically and mentally capable of performing confined space entry operations via 21" manholes with vertical descent using integral or portable ladders further requiring use of all applicable protective equipment and documentation. Ability to pass pre-employment physicals. Performs duties to include pushing, pulling, lifting, bending, stooping, walking, climbing in and out of catch basins and manholes (with assistance, includes removal and replacement of manhole covers weighing up to 90 pounds). All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
