The Airfield Electrician is responsible for maintaining runway, taxiway, beacons, weather monitoring systems, illuminated signs, and other special airport lighting systems in accordance with codes, Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) standards, and other requirements. Other responsibilities include inspecting and improving electrical facility installations, maintenance, and repairs; and maintaining motors, relays, circuit breakers, regulators, and other electrical components of the lighting and mechanical systems.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
- Maintains runway, taxiway, beacons, weather monitoring systems, and other special airport lighting systems in accordance with codes, standards, and other requirements.
- Monitors airfield circuit quality and initiates repairs prior to loss of circuit operation.
- Monitors airfield communication systems to prevent loss of lighting control.
- Assists in inspecting maintenance, repair, and installation of electrical facilities and develops improvements to such facilities.
- Installs, modifies, and repairs lighting, mechanical, and control systems in airport and airfield facilities
- Inspects, troubleshoots, and repairs the Remote Weather Information System (RWIS) and subsystems
- Performs preventative maintenance inspections and tests on motors, relays, circuit breakers, and other electrical components.
- Maintains and repairs motors, relays, circuit breakers, and other electrical components of the lighting and mechanical systems.
- Reviews and provides input to project specifications and as-built drawings.
- Works with live electrical equipment in hazardous areas.
- Attends training and completes testing to maintain air operations area certification for airfield driving.
- Maintains regular and on-time attendance.
- Follows all safety regulations.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics:
- Electrical Circuits: Knowledge of electrical circuits and devices related to building or airfield maintenance.
- Lock Out-Tag Out Procedures: Knowledge of lock out-tag out procedures for safeguarding employees from hazards.
- Electronic Test Equipment: Knowledge of electronic test equipment, electronic theory, and logic circuitry.
- Electrical Facilities and Equipment: Knowledge of local, state, and federal codes pertaining to electrical or airfield facilities and equipment.
- Electronic Stations: Knowledge of electronic airfield stations.
- Teamwork: Skill in working with others as a team while taking responsibility for outcomes.
- Equipment Maintenance: Skill in identifying the need for and performing routine maintenance on equipment.
- Electrical Testing: Skill in conducting modern electrical testing using appropriate equipment.
- Blueprint Reading: Skill in reading and interpreting blueprints and other technical drawings such as schematics, ladder diagrams, and sketches.
- Communication: Skill in communicating effectively at all levels of the organization and with stakeholders, both orally and in writing.
- Computer Use: Skill in using a personal computer, the internet, and other software to perform job-related functions.
