JOB SUMMARY
Performs skilled general maintenance tasks and leads a small group of employees engaged in the general maintenance of school facilities. Performs a variety of repairs and installations related to building structure, roofing, and interior/exterior components/finishes.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Installs and repairs floor finishes and metal framed or drywall partitions and specialty items such as chalkboards, bulletin boards, smart boards, bleachers (exterior, interior), lockers, toilet partitions, overhead doors, folding partitioning.
Evaluates, installs, and repairs various types of roofing materials, flashing, exterior trim, soffit, fascias, gutters, and down spouts. Cleans roof drains.
Serves as a lead worker and lays out work for self and other members of the crew.
May assist with scheduling, assigning, and completing the more complex work assignments.
Advises management of issues that will require collaboration with other departments for completion of tasks.
Cuts, fits, and joins lumber and plastic laminate in the construction and repair of cabinetry, bookcases, and countertops.
Performs sizing, mortising, boring, fitting, and hanging wood door blanks; sizing, ordering, and hanging metal doors.
Repairs and replaces T&G ceiling tile, suspended ceiling tile, grid, masonry block, brick, and concrete.
Performs other related duties as assigned within the same classification or lower.

Education
High School Diploma or Equivalency Certificate required.
Experience
Five (5) years progressively responsible general maintenance/construction or related experience and required;
One (1) year experience or training in the assigning and scheduling of work duties in a lead capacity and required;
One (1) year welding experience preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics
Intermediate knowledge of construction methods and procedures.
Intermediate carpentry skills to include layout, framing, and sheathing.
Ability to oversee the work of others as a leader and make independent judgments and decisions within established parameters.
Ability to use various shop and hand power tools including saws, drills, woodworking, and welding machines.
Ability to interpret work orders, diagrams, sketches, blueprints, drawings and specifications, and manufacturer’s manuals.
Ability to practice and enforce safety regulations applicable to work performed.
Knowledge of procedures and regulations pertaining to hazardous materials.
Possess excellent interpersonal and leadership skills.
Demonstrated ability to effectively work and communicate with diverse populations.
Ability to employ business technology tools (e.g. E-mail, AACPS Intranet, electronic benefits enrollment tool, Microsoft Office Suite, etc.).
Provides basic hand tools.
Licenses and Certifications
Employee must retain active licenses, certifications, and enrollment as a condition of employment.
Upon hire, Driver's License (DL) Class C Non-Commercial issued by Maryland or State of Legal Residence (MVA/DMV) required.
Proof of a good driving record required.

Driving is required to conduct bona fide Board business that is within the scope of employment in this position.

CAREER LADDER REQUIREMENTS
Qualification Requirements for Employment in Higher Grade as a New Hire or Transfer requires:
Two (2) additional years continuous successful experience required.
Completion of practical maintenance trades/vocational training/education.
Knowledge of and ability to perform multiple trades’ skill at an advance level.
Eligibility for Consideration for Advancement from Lower Grade to Higher Grade requires:
Two (2) years continuous successful experience in the position at the Lower Grade level.
Mastery of all responsibilities and duties of the position.
Achievement of Professional Certification, License or evidence of course completion in pursuit of such certification or license, if applicable.
Evidence of completion of additional training that may be recommended by supervisor and/or participation in approved professional development programs or courses, approved in advance by the supervisor. Successful completion of a minimum of one professional development within the last two years is required. Successful completion of job specific professional developments identified on the job description, performance evaluations and/or the supervisor’s documented recommendation are required.
